Obon Festival お盆祭 — Let’s Support Our School Together!
Obon (お盆祭) is a major festival in Japan and in Japanese American communities, giving us a meaningful opportunity to honor the spirits of those who have passed. It is also the largest fundraising event of the year for the San Fernando Valley Hongwanji Buddhist Temple, and the San Fernando Valley Japanese Language Institute, which will host Obon on June 28th and 29th in the SFVJLI parking lot.
SFVJLI is proud to take part by hosting our annual booth, where we’ll be selling refreshments including cold somen noodles, edamame, mugicha tea, and lemonade. This event plays a key role in helping us keep tuition affordable for all families — and we need everyone’s help to make it a success!
We encourage every family to volunteer rather than donate money. Your time and energy help ensure we have enough hands to run the booth smoothly and safely. Without enough volunteers, it becomes very challenging for SFVJLI to operate during Obon while supporting this important fundraiser. Together, we can share the workload and strengthen our community!
