(By Assistant Coordinator Sachiko Liou)
Do you remember Nancy Chayaplasert? She was a Thai-American student who attended our school for just a few years while she was a high school student. Despite her relatively short time with us, she learned to speak and write in Japanese very well. She really wanted to learn Japanese! Sometimes I hear our students complain that they don’t have anybody who speaks Japanese at home. But for Nancy that was no excuse. She always asked me a lot of questions and worked hard to improve her Japanese.
We have been exchanging e-mail since she left our school, and I want to share with all of you how she is doing lately.
“. . . I am very excited for college. I am going to UC Santa Cruz on September 20. I will be taking Japanese class and I will study hard! I want to finally speak well, and then I will come visit you and everyone at Japanese school.
Thank you for writing to me sensei! It made me very happy. Take care.”
