On May 14th the staff split up into 3 groups and offered cooking, crafts and calligraphy to the students to get some cultural exposure.
The cooking class was taught by Oga-sensei and Liou-Sensei. The students were taught how to make California Rolls. Mrs. Bertolino and Mrs. Bracken helped the students make the California Rolls. Murata Sensei donated a bag of rice and Tokumitsu sensei and Murata sensei let the students borrow bamboo sushi mats so each student would be able to roll the sushi at the same time. All the students had a fun making the sushi and eating it afterwards.
The craft group was lead by Kim sensei, Murata sensei and Tokumitsu sensei. This group did not have any parents helping out, but the older students helped the younger students finish the Kusudama (a colorful origami ornament ball).
The third group was the calligraphy class. This class was taught by Ueda sensei and our PTA president, Yoshiko Kawada.
The staff hopes everyone had an enjoyable time being exposed to some Japanese culture.
