Girl’s Day is celebrated on March 3rd, but SFVJLI celebrated it on March 5th. All the children were asked to bring Kimonos, Yukatas and Happi coats. The students and teachers all got dressed up and presented a program to learn about the history of Hinamatsuri and an explanation of the dolls that are set up for the occasion. The J1 class sang the Hinamatsuri song and some of the students presented 2 Japanese dances, Sakura and Amefuriotsukisan. The J1 presenters were Sakura Franzman, Emi Hall, Ayumi Hasuo, Alyxis Nakano, Reiko Nakasone, and Marina Sturek. The student dancers were Nina Caudill, Sakura Franzman, Kei Kawada, Kiyomi Kunihiro, Hana Richardson, Sadako Shirtcliff and Marina Sturek. Mrs. Reiko Shimada also performed a dance called ‘Harunoshirabe’. All the classes took pictures around the Hinamatsuri dolls and were given traditional Okashi.
We hope all the students had a great time and learned some more about the culture and why we celebrate Girl’s day.
