Kodomo no hi was celebrated at SFVJLI with at field trip to Descanso Gardens. The children were treated to a bus ride to Descanso Gardens and each class took a self guided tour of the gardens. The teachers explained the names of the flowers in Japanese, so they also got a Japanese class while on the trip.
The Lilacs were done blooming, but the roses were in full bloom. There were so many different colors and kinds of roses. What a beautiful site! The sixth grade class had the opportunity to observe a deer that wandered into the park area of the gardens.
After the self guided tour, the children gathered in the picnic area and had lunch and headed back to the school.
Once we returned to the school, the winds had picked up just enough to make the Koinobori look like they are swimming. It was such a beautiful site.
This year we have new and different Koinoboris. This was sent to the school by Yoshiko Kawada’s brother in Japan. Yoshiko-san, thank you very much for making arrangements for the school to get new Koinoboris.
