SFVJLI GRADUATION CRITERIA
|
|
For you parents who are fairly new to our school, SFVJLI used to apply a grade system. Just like the local schools, each student started from kindergarten (nyumon), automatically moved on to the next grade each year, and then graduated from our school after the 9th grade. However, we started having a greater variety of students with different language backgrounds, and it’s been very difficult to go with the grade system. So the level system was introduced four years ago, with placement determined by a placement test given before the new school year. The criteria for graduating from our school was set to be students who finished 2 years of the Advanced II class and passed a graduation test. Therefore, graduation does not necessarily mean that students are finished with school, but it is positioned as mastery of a certain level. However, there’re always some exceptional cases, such as students in the Advanced II class who transferred from other language schools who were not qualified for graduation. We understand some of your concerns, and we, as school staff members, will keep discussing amendments that all teachers, students and parents can agree with in the near future. Thank you for your understanding.
