MY FAVORITE KURIMANJU

(By Betty Ikemoto, Numon Class Parent)

The annual Kurimanju fundraiser event was held on Saturday, March 10th. I have been told that this fundraiser has been an ongoing event for the past 50 years. The proceeds from this event help pay for various school activities, such as Hinamatsuri, the Holiday Party, and field trips. It was a beautiful Saturday morning and it was hard to give up my morning to volunteer. The motivation that I had was that I LOVE eating Kurimanju and this was such a great way to see how it was made! This was my first time as a parent volunteer to make the Kurimanju. My friends and I did not know what to expect nor what to do. As we got to the kitchen after dropping our kids off in class, it was already bustling with all the other volunteers. We ended up finding empty spaces at the table, where we were instructed on how to divide the dough, make it into a ball, flatten it, and wrap it around the anko. That was easy enough. It seemed like the dough was never ending; batch after batch it was kneaded into a big ball for us to divide. We did this until all of the dough was gone, which ended up being about 2
hours. We were done in record time! It was fun meeting some of the other parents and catching up with friends. The Kurimanju was delicious too, so I hope everyone had a chance to buy some!
