HINAMATSURI
|
|
In Japan Hinamatsuri is celebrated on March 3rd. This is also known as Girl’s Day. SFVJLI celebrated Hinamatsuri by letting all the children dress up in kimonos and presented a little program. The program included a display of the traditional dolls, an explanation of how the dolls are set up, singing and a dance demonstration by Mrs. Reiko Shimada. She showed the children various ways one could use the sensu (folding fan) in dances to represent various things such as a cane used by an older person, an umbrella and a sword. Each of the classes took pictures in their kimono dress and got treats from the teachers.
